Blessings

The Irish cleric and poet John O’Donohue wrote dozens of blessings for many occasions, and contemporary writer and minister Jan Richardson has done the same. This Sunday we explore some of Rev. David’s favorites from their offerings, and consider: What does it mean to “bless,” or to offer a blessing? How do we “bless the space between us,” to use O’Donohue’s phrase?

Rev. David Morris recently retired as minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk, NC. He has served in UU ministry for 21 years, at congregations in North Carolina, Virginia, and Northern California. He has been active in UUA anti-racism efforts since the start of his ministry, and was on the moderator Gini Courter’s Council on Cross-Cultural Engagement. He also served the Association in other volunteer positions at the district and national levels. Rev. David lives in the historic town of Manteo with his wife, the Rev. Dr. Gaye Morris, their great-grandson Oliver, and three big hound dogs.
