A Field Trip to Bonehenge

UCF members and friends enjoyed an engaging tour of Beaufort’s Bonehenge Whale Center to learn about whales and other cetaceans and their habitats. The Center displays a vast array of whale skeletons and whale art with instructional tours of the workshop. The tour participants learned about a newly identified species that is one of the most endangered whales in the world with fewer than 100 – the Rice’s whale.

Supported by donors and volunteers, the Center exists to base research, exhibit preparation and display, marine conservation, educational programming, outreach, publications, and stranded specimen collection and maintenance that focus on NC cetaceans (whales, dolphins, and porpoises), past and present.

Thanks to Michelle Crepeau for organizing the tour and Keith Rittmaster for sharing his wealth of knowledge.
