As you heard if you were able to attend the Martin Luther King Day service on January 16th, UCF is exploring the possibility of adopting the UUA Eighth Principle, which specifically states the intention of “working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
Some members of our congregation have been reading and discussing books on racism in the Anti-Racism Reading Group for several years now and the newly formed Racial Justice Group is working to find ways to expand this work to include more of the congregation, since adoption of the Eighth Principle would be a congregational decision.
One way that we can begin to show our interest in racial justice work is for more of us to join the Carteret County NAACP to support their work. The annual dues for an adult are $30 per year. Meetings are on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM and are currently on Zoom, though your financial support of their work will be appreciated whether you can attend meetings or not.
If you would like to join the Carteret County NAACP, here is the application form. Just fill it out and mail it to the Morehead City address on the form, along with a check. Contact Sally Davis ([email protected]) if you have any questions.
