“Recognizing and Interrupting Racism” Class

On Saturday, June 12th, ten members and friends gathered at the Sunday School building for a class by Liz Morningstar called “Recognizing and Interrupting Racism”.  The class was interactive with participants sharing information learned in books on racism (and Anti-racism) over the past two years and, after a discussion of “Accountability and Calling In” (not “calling out”), role playing how to respond to racist remarks and situations.

Liz  and the group discussed the “Four ‘I’s’ of Oppression and types of racism”:  Ideological Racism, Institutional Racism, Interpersonal Racism, and Internalized Racism.

All participants agreed that the class was inspiring and enlightening and a very good way to spend a Saturday morning.  Watch the Updates, newsletter and UCF website for information on future classes.
