Approximately 100 people attended the outdoor, socially-distanced event

On Monday, January 17th, many UCF members and friends joined about 100 people in celebrating the life of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr at the MLK Park in Morehead City.  The weather was cold and breezy, but those in attendance fully enjoyed many excellent speeches about the meaning of this day and hopes for the future of racial justice and voter rights.  Among the speakers was our own Jo Ellen Essex, who talked about the work of the group “Citizens for Diversity in Education” .  Rev. Michelle Ma gave the benediction.  Participants in the planning of the non-partisan event included the Carteret County Democratic Party, the Carteret County League of Women Voters, the Carteret County NAACP, Crystal Coast Proud, and the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship.
