About Children’s and Family Ministry

You and your family are welcome at the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship!

When you arrive, we’ll present your family with a “busy bag” or two, with small toys, crayons and coloring pages to help your little ones stay entertained. Families sit together for the first 15-20 minutes. After the Time for All Ages and Joys & Concerns, we will then sing our little ones out to the nursery and classroom next door in the Rev. Sally B. White Center. As we’re growing our program, currently children of all ages play together in one room, with two adults for supervision. We use Spirit Play, a Montessori-based non-hierarchical model of religious education to guide children’s exploration of different faith traditions and Unitarian Universalist values of justice, transformation, generosity, interdependence, pluralism, equity and love.

The Quiet Place

Families are welcome to use our Quiet Place, a soundproof room in the sanctuary with a one-way mirrored window where you can view and hear the service. Toys, books and stuffed animals are in the room for anyone to use.

On the first Sunday of each month we have First Sunday Funday. We invite everyone who loves some fun to come at 9:30 am (an hour before the service) and participate in crafting, games, bubbles and snacks.

The second Friday of each month we have Game Night at 6:30 pm, where we play board and card games old and new: everything from Yahtzee to Exploding Kittens. We also always have a birthday cake to celebrate that month’s birthdays. If you have a game you’d like to share, please teach us!

And every year, children and teens join us for Project Christmas Cheer, where we adopt several families from a local Angel Tree, shop for them, and wrap the presents during a pizza party afterward. The children and teens really take the lead on this, as they know the trends and brands better than the adults!

We are here to be the village that helps raise your children. Children learn what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist from seeing it modeled by the community around them. See you soon!
