Rev. Sally’s Retirement Party

On June 30, 2021, Rev. Sally White, our beloved minister, teacher, and friend, retired after almost 18 years as our pastor.  Many of us spent the last few months of her tenure saying goodbye and letting her know what she meant to us but on June 26th, we held a Retirement Party at the Train Depot in Morehead City, that celebrated our shared experience.  All pictures shown here were taken by Sally’s daughter, Nafis White.

The party was organized by Nan Reed and Marilynn Cullison, with help from many others, and was a wonderful but bittersweet celebration.  It held extra meaning for us because it was the first time we could all gather since March of 2020 when the Covid pandemic began.  The venue was packed with people including current and former members of the congregation, friends of Rev. Sally from near and far, as well as her two daughters, Emily and Nafis.

Members of the original Search Committee which selected Rev. Sally told stories about the selection process and others, including our Board President, Melva Kearney, gave tribute to all that she has done for the Unitarian Coastal Fellowship and how much she means to us.  Gifts were given and it was announced that the Sunday School building on our new church campus at 2900 Bridges Steet would be named in her honor and also that Rev. Sally would be granted Minister Emeritus status by vote of the congregation.  Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson of the UU Justice Ministry of NC also announced that Rev. Sally would be the new Board President of her organization.
