Join us November 19 at 1:30 pm at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center, Harker’s Island, NC, for our last nature hike of 2022!
We’ll stroll around Willow Pond behind the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum. The trail includes a bird blind to view a spectacular roosting area for local waterbirds, including black- and yellow-crowned night herons, white ibis, great blue herons, green herons, and others. We’ve seen bullfrogs, black snakes, eastern box turtles, and bunnies on the trail as well. It’s a lovely woodland and an easy walk around the lake. The museum itself offers interesting exhibits about local life and culture, the craft of carving duck decoys, and an excellent display about hurricanes that have affected us locally. The museum building includes an observation deck from which you can view the Cape Lookout Lighthouse on a clear day. We’ll have time to look around the museum during our trip as well.
